Adam's new look was always going to be about more than just changing our colours from blue to orange. And to demonstrate our plans to re-invent what Adam can deliver, we’re introducing Sentinel: Our first dynamic inline checkweigher.
Sentinel is a significant product for Adam: it means those who use and need dynamic inline checkweighers will now have access to everything else that has allowed the Adam brand to grow through manufacturing static weighing products. That is unparalleled customer support; agile, responsive development of products to meet customers’ needs; and dependable weighing with intuitive operation.
Not only that – but Sentinel will enter the market at a lower price point than most of the existing brands that checkweigher customers use with many more benefits and options included as standard. That means those businesses that had previously been put off using an inline checkweigher on the grounds of cost can now seriously consider such a solution – and enjoy the payback that comes with reduced giveaway or overfill, increased efficiency through 100% automation of manual weighing, and long-term savings.
What is a dynamic inline checkweigher?
A dynamic inline checkweigher is an automatic weighing system installed on a production line that weighs every product as it moves past. It does this without the conveyor ever stopping, and provides a weight for each item that passes. If an item is above or below pre-set weight tolerances, it will reject the item and remove it from the production line.

Why would you use a dynamic inline checkweigher instead of a traditional static scale?
The key advantages of a dynamic inline checkweigher over a static weighing scale are:
-
Increased production speed – items are weighed as they pass along the conveyor, instead of being removed and added to a scale
-
Less or no operator involvement – inline checkweighers look after the weighing process, meaning lower labour costs
-
Automatic rejection – no items that are above or below your weight tolerances will make it to despatch! This means better quality control.
-
Integration with existing production lines – inline checkweighers can be combined with metal detectors, vision systems and barcode readers for a fully-automated production line
-
Better compliance and quality control – inline checkweighers can record the weight of every item that passes by it – automatically
In summary, static manual weighing relies on sampling to meet requirements of packaged goods which means products are typically overweight. By replacing this with automated inline weighing means that manual sample weighing is no longer required. More importantly, because 100% of products manufactured are weighed and rejected if underweight, there is no longer a need to produce overweight products.
What makes Sentinel different?
Sentinel has been specially designed to meet the standards of the pharmaceutical industry, including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance, compatibility with pharmaceutical applications to ensure drug quality and support the FDA 21 CFR Part 11 audit trail.
Sentinel can weigh a wide range of packaged goods, including cartons, glass bottles, plastic bottles, sachets and film packs. In addition to standard checkweighing to detect missing tablets/capsules or insufficient filling, Sentinel can also detect missing inserts in packaging - such as instructions, flyers or postcards.
Patented non-contact taut band high-accuracy technology, in combination with a low-friction aluminum conveyor and precision-controlled stepper motor, will allow Sentinel to ensure exceptional accuracy on high-speed production lines of up to 350 products per minute.
Key elements of Sentinel will be bespoke, allowing customers to specify exactly what will best work for their business.
And, most crucial of all is the price point. The list price we will soon be announcing for Sentinel will make it a far more accessible proposition for businesses, helping them to automate processes, save money and produce more.
What are the key features of Sentinel?
Sentinel range is a modular unit, with bespoke elements available. Additionally, it’ll boast:
-
A 15.6” full-colour touch-screen, with a 30-dgree tilt, so that it can be adjusted to the user’s perfect angle
-
Automatic operation, with multiple dashboards on the touch-screen for production monitoring, as well as 400gb data storage for full traceability and memory of up to 200 products
-
